The Stratford Nationals Mosquito team hosted the Waterloo Tigers at Dufferin Park Wednesday night.
Reid Gerber took the mound and kept the Waterloo team scoreless through three innings. The Nationals bats started off a bit rusty but they took advantage of some timely walks and passed balls to run out to a 9-0 lead heading into the fourth inning. After giving up three quick runs in the fourth, Reid handed the ball off to Nathan Siebert who kept the clawing Tigers at bay - allowing only one more run before the Nationals bats exploded in the fifth inning. Solid hits by veterans Rylan Hall, Austin Musselman and Brenden Sippel, as well as newcomers Carter Petrie and Blake Hodgson each slapping singles to cash some insurance runs in the Nationals 24-4 Opening Day win.
Next action in Listowel Tuesday May 22 @ 6pm and in Brantford Wednesday May 23 @ 6pm.
