Regular Season Champs
The U10 Nationals go from 0-19 a year ago to Regular Season Champs.
A pitchers battle on Wednesday night was exactly what the U10 Nationals found themselves in. Needing a win and some help from Guelph down the road Hayes Francis went to work on the mound and was able to pitch all 5 innings of game 1 in a shortened DH a 2-1 Nationals Victory. The Nationals got on the board in the first inning when Easton Mathieson walked, stole 2nd and 3rd and advanced home on a wild pitch. That was the games only run until the 4th when Kitchener managed to scratch one across to tie the game, Stratford retook the lead in the Top of the 5th and Francis shut the door in the bottom half of the 5th. The victory moved the Nationals to 29 points.
They say all good things come to an end, the Nationals had been riding a 10 game League winning streak before dropping the back half of the DH 10-5, this forced the Nationals to need a bit of help to Clinch the Regular Season title and Guelph did just what the Nationals ordered and cooked up a 10-9 victory and helping the Nationals clinch 1st. It was the bat of Kohen McLeod, Cam Gibson and Hayes Francis that did the bulk of the damage in Game 2. Bryce Burdette kicked off a 7th inning rally that came up short when McLeod's drive to left field found the fielders glove for the final out of the game. The team now has 2 regular season games left with Hamilton Saturday, before they head into the ICBA tournament as the number 1 seed. These same Nationals will also host the OBA championships in September.
The coaching staff is incredibly proud of these kids, Grayson, Grayson, Hayes, Kohen, Randell, Easton, Cam, Carson, Bryce, Bentley, Jake, Cale who went from 0-19 a season ago to regular season champs, the amount of work you have put in this year is a true testament to where you all are now.
But none of this is possible without the amazing parent group we have that cheer us on and make sure these kids are at every team event. This feat is just as much yours to celebrate as it is our players.
