Notes
Stratford started the tournament 1 and 2. With there backs to the wall they managed to get wins over rival Guelph on Saturday immediately after getting beat 11 to 1 by Springfield. Then on Sunday afternoon in the heat managed to beat a very good West Toronto team. With only a hour break between games Stratford had the task of playing a rested team in Springfield. Stratford having burned Middleton, Roth and Near for the game had to rely on the depth of their pitching staff. Charlie Rankin was given the start. Springfield started out the way they left off Saturday. They had 4 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in the first. Rankin settled down and held them to just 2 hits over the next two innings. Hall led off the third with a single and went to third on a single by Riley Sykes. Ethan Reid hit into a FC to drive in the first run. Tessmer came on to pitch the next 3 innings having thrown to them just the day before giving up 8 hits but only 1 earned run. The defence was behind him this time turning a double play and throwing out base runners. In the bottom of the fifth Roth led off with a double and scored on Rankin’s single. Hall followed with a double down the line to score Rankin. Hall scored on a sac fly by Sykes. In the sixth Deline led off with a walk and Near followed that up with a single. After a passed ball Tessmer ground out 4-3 to score Deline and the game was tied. Yea came out to pitch the seventh and eighth. In the extra innings international ti-breaking rules were used. The inning started with a runner at second and Yea left him there with 2 fly outs and one K setting the stage for the win. With Reid at second Middleton place a perfect bunt down and everyone as safe. On the next pitch Middleton took second. Sam Near was the hero hitting a fly ball to centre to drive in the game winning run
